REVIEWS:
BOYZ 11 AUGUST 2005 4/5 STARS
Hot on the stiletto heels of their
recent mini-tour, and following their
glorious guest spot reviewing last
week's singles, Kim, Chelsea and the
lads, otherwise known as the utterly
fab-ooh-lous (C Kemal 2005) Readers
Wifes, unleash their third single,
the electro-aggro anthem 'Nostalgia'.
Hooking up with New York cabaret royalty
Justin Bond (of Kiki & Herb fame),
the Wifes have once again tossed-off
another underground nugget.
A carnival/riot of inspirations, 'Nostalgia'
throws everyone from
Giorgio Moroder and Andy Warhol to
the Rolling Stones and Soft Cell into
the blender. The twisted synths, menacing
guitars and snarling vocals are whipped
into shape beneath the watchful eye
of executive producer and ex-Banshees
legend Steven Severin. With remixes
from the likes of Princess Julia,
Atomizer, Eazy and Miss Ana Mantronic,
the cult of the Readers Wifes continues
to grow.
METRO 8 AUGUST 2005 4/5 STARS
Had the Pet Shop Boys continued in
the Go West vein, they would have
arrived at this electro floor-filler
about drag queens bitching their way
through London’s plusher ‘hoods.
With an arch vocal by Kiki And Herb’s
Justin Bond.
TIME OUT 3 AUGUST 2005
Imagine Giorgio Moroder, out of his
head on Bacardi Breezers, stumbling
down the Kings Road with a flamingo
on his head, and then multiply that
already impressive brilliance by about
three. That is how great this record
is.
MUSIC WEEK - 25 JULY 2005
This fierce glam-switchblade-disco
tune should be the one to catapult
London's Readers Wifes into the chart
after being tipped in the press. It
offers a delirous mix of Moroder-esque
synths, punk guitar, snarling vocals
and a chorus that just won't quit.
PINNACLE
ENTERTAINMENT
Following hard on the heels of their
limited edition electro-aggro anthem
'Scumpop / Black Silk Stocking,' Duckie's
art-pop, lipstick 'n' switchblade
terrorists roar back with this delicious
slice of underground dance-rock action.
Giorgio Moroder synth lines, Warhol's
transvestite superstars, Charles Hawtrey,
the Rolling Stones' ragged decadence
and Soft Cell perviness all collide
on Nostalgia, a mind-boggling collaboration
between the Wifes and New York cabaret
giant Justin Bond (Kiki and Herb).
Once again the track was executively
produced by ex-Banshee Steven Severin.
Justin has a unique and memorable
delivery and style which has earned
him fans of the highest order, including
Deborah Harry (who provided vocals
for the last Kiki & Herb album),
Siouxsie Sioux, Scissor Sisters (who
he has toured with and supported)
and Rufus Wainright – who described
Justin as 'the greatest performer
on earth.'
The 4-minute pop perfection of the
Radio Edit has also been remixed to
perfection by London's two premier
underground clubs. For Nag, Nag, Nag
Atomizer have turned in something
dark and deeply disturbing (Boy George
is already tearing up the New York
clubs with this mix) and for The Cock,
The Most (Princess Julia and Luke
Howard) have fashioned a bright and
bouncy work of art that recalls Bobby
O's greatest work with Divine.
Also featured across the formats
is the never previously released 'Endless
Night,' an uncharacteristically downbeat
musical tale about a Glasgow prostitute.
A bonus track comes in the form of
the band's storming live mash-up of
the Rolling Stones' 'Let's Spend The
Night Together.'
